The challenge
A rugged industrial operator display needed to present several network-camera views alongside the existing control interface. Camera startup, stream loss and view switching could not destabilise the rest of the HMI or consume resources needed by control applications.
Engineering approach
Crossware analysed the complete path from network acquisition through decode and on-screen composition. Stream lifecycle, decoder behaviour, window integration and recovery were tuned together on the embedded Linux target instead of being treated as isolated application concerns.
Reliable behaviour in the field
The integration was designed for real product conditions: unavailable cameras, interrupted streams, repeated preset changes and competition for system resources. Clear ownership of the pipeline allows the surrounding HMI to request a view, receive status and recover from errors without carrying media-specific complexity.
Delivered capabilities
- Parallel network-stream acquisition and lifecycle handling
- Embedded decode and hardware-aware presentation pipeline
- Preset switching and integration with the existing user interface
- Detection and recovery for unavailable or interrupted streams
- Target-side resource, stability and endurance testing
- Defect analysis across network, media and display layers
Outcome
The operator display gained dependable visual context without turning its main application into a media framework. The same approach applies to mobile machinery, field equipment and industrial systems that combine control workflows with on-demand camera views.
